Mixcon Munich 2019 - A producer review

As more and more are people are starting to get into music production and DJing, there are also more and more DJ/Producer conventions. For example Dancefair in the Netherlands which is very popular. I recently visited one of those events, Mixcon, which was a huge DJ/Producer convention and conference in Munich, Germany. 70 speakers, 30 brands, 30 labels and 1200 visitors were there, including some famous people. I personally really enjoyed Mixcon, keep reading if you want to know why. In this blog, we will give you an honest review of Mixcon on March 1^st and 2^nd 2019. 

First of all, a general explanation of what Mixcon looked like: Inside the BMW Welt, a big building by the car producer BMW, in Munich, Germany, there was one specific area where Mixcon took place on March 1^st and 2^nd 2019. This area consisted of 3 floors. The bottom one was packed full of equipment by several DJ/Producer gear brands such as Reloop, Denon DJ, Pioneer DJ, ImageLine FL Studio and Akai, ready to be tested by the visitors.

The gear area 

The gear area was probably every DJs paradise: A lot of setups, ready for the visitors to play on. These setups included: Pioneer Nexus, Denon Prime, Denon Prime 4, Pioneer DDJ-1000, Reloop Mixon 4, Reloop Elite + RP8000Mk2 and many more. The gear area also had a bit of producing equipment, but in my opinion, it was a bit too DJ focused. 

There was a full FL Studio Setup (containing a midi keyboard, the Akai fire, a pair of studio monitors and a PC running FL), a few samplers by Akai and a bunch of hardware synthesizers, that’s it about the producing equipment at Mixcon. Now, this was all great stuff, don’t get me wrong but I would have wished to see more producing equip at the event. Anyways, it was a lot of fun using all of this gear and I’m definitely going to write another article about our personal gear highlight at Mixcon 2019 so keep checking the new articles on InsideAudio.

Floor two

In the bar at floor two, you could just sit down, relax and have a beer or non-alcoholic kind of drink while enjoying the music coming from the booth in there. There where talented singers and live musicians as well as amazingly skilled DJs such as DJ Ice Cap. Next to the bar, there was a big room with a stage and a lot of chairs: the place where the session and workshops took place. Those were done by people like Da Tweekaz, Chris Montana, 2elements, Frank Klein (manager of Robin Schulz, Alle Farben and Hugel) and many more. These sessions were really interesting and you could definitely learn a lot from them. The only thing I would have wished there was a bigger room or at least a few more chairs as there were way too many people listening and watching. 

Top area

The top area, aka floor three, was the place where “Die Klangküche” recorded an episode of their famous German DJ/Producer podcast. Also, there was a big balcony to get a bit of fresh air! That’s it already about this area.

Auditions

You could meet famous people throughout the days such as Da Tweekaz, Jon Sine, Jay Frog, and many more.

There where auditions by big producers and label A&Rs. Next to the BMW, you had to reserve 15-minute spots with one of the producers or label guys. Now, these spots were limited and due to that, they were full way too early. So, if you’re planning to go to Mixcon 2020, save your spot as soon as possible there! I was lucky enough to get a feedback session/audition with Chris Montana and I have to say: It was awesome! Chris was super nice and gave some helpful feedback for my music. 

Conclusion

In conclusion, we have to say that Mixcon was an AMAZING event for all DJs and Producers and it was definitely worth going there. Having the chance to try out a bunch of equipment, meet famous Producers, get feedback on your music or simply connect with other peoples of the industry is an incredible opportunity. I am really looking forward to Mixcon 2020!
