Review: the ADAM T5V studio monitor

producer/hardware Review: the ADAM T5V studio monitor

The Adam T5V belongs to the new T-series of the German company ADAM Audio. The series consists of 2 affordable active near-field reference monitors, each with a very large frequency response and a fair sound for mixing and mastering in small and medium-sized studios. The other monitor of the T-series is the T7V.

The ADAM T5V studio monitor:

  • Is the smallest of the T-series
  • Has a 5-inch woofer
  • Has a 1,9 inch AMT (Air Motion Transformer) tweeter
  • Compatible with the Sub 7 and Sub 8 subwoofers
  • Has a size of 25 x 37 x 40 cm
  • Weighs a total of 6 kg

The T5V has a very dynamic range, and especially the high frequencies are great as a reference for your mix and master. The monitor is equipped with an efficient class-D amplification and a DSP crossover that ensures a clean sound. The speaker is amplified with 50 watts the tweeter with 20 watts. At the back of the monitor, it is possible to adjust the frequency response by means of the low- and high filter. In addition, the monitor is equipped with balanced XLR and unbalanced RCA connections so that it can be used in any studio.

First experience

The ADAM T5V has a sleek design and is equipped with a 5-inch woofer and a 1.9-inch tweeter. The monitor is equipped with an AMT tweeter that can handle the highest frequencies due to its low moving mass so that your mix always sounds good in the high frequencies. Partly because of this, the T5V has a very large frequency response. The tweeter of the T-series is also equipped with HPS (High-frequency Propagation System) components that ADAM uses for the S-series monitors in the higher price range. This system ensures that disturbing reflections from, for example, the furniture in the studio are reduced. This keeps the sound very accurate even at high frequencies. If you are looking for more low tones, it is also possible to connect one of ADAM their subwoofers to the monitor.

''The T-series will open doors for (starting) producers through the accessibility of high-quality monitoring for every budget''

The monitor seems modest at first sight but has a remarkably full sound for its size. The sound that comes out is actually not comparable with other monitors from this price range. The first experience when we listen to the monitors is that the stereo-image is incredibly good. The highs are very clear and lows are well-balanced. Most important is that you can mix and master for hours on these monitors without getting your ears irritated. We have experience with other monitors like KRK Rokit’s when working on a mix for a few hours your ears just need some rest. With the ADAM’s it’s easily possible to mix for hour after hour without getting tired and avoiding ear fatigue. All in all incredible and awesome work from ADAM Audio.

The ADAM T5V studio monitor is ideal for beginning and advanced producers who work in small and medium-sized studios. Due to the large frequency response and its ribbon tweeter, this is one of the better monitors in its price range. If you find the T5V too small for your studio, it is also possible to purchase the T7V.
