Review: the Kali LP-6 studio monitor

The Kali LP-6 is, together with the LP-8, the first monitor of Kali Audio, the relatively new company from Southern California. Kali Audio was founded in 2018 by former JBL-pro staff and the company produces high-quality audio products. Every product that Kali designs is named after a city or village in California. The LP series stands for the city of Lone Pine, which is located on the Eastern Sierra. The special thing about the LP series is, next to the fact that they are very affordable, they make use of Lone Pine Technology. The LP series consists of affordable reference monitors with a very dynamic range and a bright, bright bass for mixing and mastering in small and medium-sized studios.

The Kali LP-6 studio monitor:

The LP-6 has a very dynamic range, and because nothing is amplified or suppressed to make the monitor sound better, the LP series gives a fair and reliable sound for your production. Thanks to the combination of the 3-D Imaging Waveguide technique, large voice coil and the adapted port tube, these monitors are one of the best in its price range. The LP-6 is also very versatile, accurate to set up and can be used in almost every studio because of the many options in boundary EQ settings and connection options. The monitor is equipped with an efficient class-D amplification for which both the 6.5-inch woofer and the 1-inch soft dome tweeter make use of the 40 watt amplification. With the LP-8 series, the low-frequency woofer is even amplified by 60 watts.

First experience

The LP series does not have a very pronounced appearance, but is this important for a good studio monitor? We do not think so. What is immediately noticeable is that the LP-6 feels very robust and solid. The manual is very extensive and every possible position of the boundary EQ settings is subtly discussed so that you can get the most out of the monitor (s).

In general, the monitor sounds very clear and deep and there indeed seems to be little discoloration. The low tones really stand out and are very detailed for a monitor of this price range. If the monitor is too close to the wall, there is still slight reflection, the LP-6 is best to its right with a minimum distance of 0.5 m. Of course, this depends on each studio so try what works best for you. The Kali LP monitors are at least comparable to other studio monitors in this price range such as KRK and Adam Audio and perhaps they even stand out.

Finally - buy Kali monitor?

The Kali LP-6 studio monitor is one of the best of its price range and is ideal for beginning and advanced producers who work in small and medium-sized studios. Because of the many different boundary EQ settings, the monitor can be perfectly adjusted to your studio and the modified port tube means there are few reflections in the low frequencies. If you find the LP-6 too small for your studio, it is also possible to purchase the LP-8.
